518: Summer deals at pickleball clubs and new tournaments

Registration is open for the Bethlehem Pickleball Tournament

The 2nd Annual Bethlehem Pickleball Tournament to support the Bethlehem Senior Projects will be held on Saturday, Oct. 4 with a rain-date of Sunday, Oct. 5.

The regular registration price is $50 but you can register now for $35. The "First Dinker" discount is for players who sign up super early.

Fun fact: Early registrations shape tournament divisions.

As a tournament director, I have eliminated events that have no early signups, which makes more room for events that are getting more action.

I have seen tournament directors delete divisions that have no players so they have space to split popular divisions by age - before registration closes!

So register early if you want to make sure the events you love actually happen.

Meet Schenectady chiropractor Dr. Tim Maggs

Pickleball demands a body that can keep up—and that’s where Dr. Tim Maggs comes in. A Schenectady-based sports chiropractor with 47 years of experience and a pioneer in biomechanics, Dr. Maggs created the Structural Fingerprint® Exam to identify imbalances BEFORE they cause injury. From laser therapy to orthotics, his proactive approach helps athletes of all ages stay on the court longer. He’s treated everyone from pro athletes to everyday players—and now he is here for the pickleball community. #060 July 31, 2025 | Read on the web Can a 3.9 player can play in a 3.5 event? The answer is "Yes" in a PickleballTournaments event. I've had a few questions about the skill divisions for the Oct. 4 Bethlehem Pickleball Tournament. Parsing skill divisions is always a struggle especially within the PickleballTournament ecosystem. PickleballTournaments rounds down . So a 3.9 player is considered a 3.5 player, therefore a "Doubles 3.5 and under event" actually means it is for players 3.99999 and...

#059 July 17, 2025 | Read on the web There are outdoor venues with lights Hi friend, my sincere apologies for misstating that the proposed East Greenbush courts would be the only large municipal venue with lights. I have since learned that Saratoga Spring's East Side courts have lights and the Crandall Park courts in Glens Falls have lights. Dang, I really blew that one. I've played at East Side many DAYS but never at night. I had even checked Google Street View prior to publishing and didn't...
