#082 Sept. 17, 2026 | Read on the web Pickleball518 takes on table tennisLast night, Pickleball518 players and friends gathered at All+ Table Tennis in Menands for a free night of ping pong — and we had a blast. We also introduced the table tennis crowd to a little piece of pickleball culture: the after-match paddle tap. It’s such a familiar part of pickleball’s sportsmanship and community that we barely think about it. The table tennis players thought it was a little strange, but hopefully it will catch on. And here’s my takeaway from the night: Table tennis might be great training for pickleball fire fights. That little white ball comes at you incredibly fast. If you can keep up with it, those rapid-fire exchanges at the kitchen may start to feel a little slower.
Thanksgiving at Emma reaches 120 signupsMore than 120 players have signed up for the Thanksgiving at Emma Willard tournament, and many divisions have developed strong fields. The tournament will be held Nov. 21–23 at Emma Willard School in Troy and will benefit Mt. Ida Food Pantry and Joseph’s House. Today is my mom's birthday and she has been on my mind. Well, she is always on my mind and always a presence in my heart. I wrote this story in 2022 to share how pickleball helped me through her declining health and her death. It resonated with a lot of people who have had similar experience. I hope pickleball is helping you in some way. https://www.pickleball518.com/the-joy-of-pickleball-helped-me-cope-with-grief/ I hope to see you on the court, Cathleen
