518: 40 more pickleball courts coming to region, with a map of the courts

More than 40 new pickleball courts...

As promised, I have an update on new and soon-to-come pickleball courts in the Greater Capital Region.

There are more than 40 new courts on the horizon! We have big public park projects like the 8 outdoor courts that just opened at the Town of Colonie's Mohawk River Park and 10 courts each at Elm Avenue Park in Bethlehem and Veterans Memorial Park in Clifton Park.

We have some commercial projects like Picklers Pickleball Club that is going into a former grocery store in Menands. The club has 6 dedicated, indoor pickleball courts. Each court is fenced in and the ceilings are about 20 feet high.

The club was built by Gary and Maura Miller, who live locally and play pickleball. The Millers loved watching their kids play college athletics. Now that their kids have grown up, they want to create a pickleball venue to host tournaments and leagues.

They hope to open Memorial Day weekend. Here is a photo I took shortly after the the courts were painted. The court nets and barriers around the courts have since been installed.

In East Greenbush, three woman - a construction company owner, a lawyer and a doctor - have teamed up to build a 4-court, pavilion-covered pickleball complex between True Value and the bike path at 40 Iroquois Place. They envision it as a space for recreation and events. Workers are digging the foundation for the columns that will hold the pavilion roof and constructing a garage that will abut the courts. The columns will be strong enough to support full walls if the owners decide to enclose the space with walls at some point.

I posted a full update on the court construction projects online:
PICKLEBALL518: Pickleball court construction update May 2024

I have also mapped the pickleball courts in the region. There are 120 venues listed on the map.

I'm sure I omitted some courts. Please tell me what I missed even if you don't have all the details. I will try to track it down. Email me at cathleen@pickleball518.com.

If you have a local pickleball website, you are welcome to embed the map on your website. Please credit and link back to Pickleball518.com. This is the embed code:

Play with an instructor at Legacy

This is a popular format at many pickleball clubs: playing with an instructor, or having an instructor observe you play with three friends. Legacy has several of these "Game Play with Pro Guidance" events on their schedule. You can check it out on the Court Reserve app or go to https://legacypbclub.com/

Whenever I met an experience tournament director or league organizer, I peppered them with questions. I'm still not an expert, but...
